SOLIDWORKS Support Monthly News – June 2015

Hello to all,

Welcome to this new edition of the SOLIDWORKS Support Monthly News, coauthored by members of the SOLIDWORKS Technical Support teams worldwide.

SOLIDWORKS 2016 Beta

The SOLIDWORKS 2016 Beta Program launches at the end of June.

At that time, software downloads, contest information, Service Request (SR) submissions, and forum content will be available.

Spotlight on Features: Why one of the assembly drawing view component does not update when I change configurations?

This is a common problem when you create an assembly with some configured parts and in this assembly you also create some parts in the context of the assembly. Although there is nothing wrong with this work flow, the problem arises when you want to create drawing views with different assembly configurations.

Find how to solve this problem by reading the entire article.

Noteworthy Solutions from the SOLIDWORKS Knowledge Base

icon - SW In SOLIDWORKS®, how can I identify the geometrical errors generated by imported geometry and fix those errors in my model?
The procedure to detect and fix potential errors depends on how the geometry was imported.
Three cases can be identified:
1. You have imported a neutral or external format file (such as Parasolid, STEP, IGES, etc.) into a part file
2. You have imported a neutral file into an assembly
3. Your assembly contains imported files in addition to native SOLIDWORKS® files
Solution Id: S-068704 goes through all three cases and suggests a procedure for each one.

icon - SW When will SOLIDWORKS® officially support Microsoft Windows® 10?
As of the release of SOLIDWORKS 2015 SP2.1, Dassault Systèmes SolidWorks Corp. has no official statement on the support of the upcoming release of Microsoft Windows 10.
For the latest details, please see the System Requirements on the SOLIDWORKS website. From Solution Id: S-068445.

icon - SW Why does SOLIDWORKS hang or show a black screen when opening parts or assemblies on monitors 3 and 4 of dual graphic cards and 4 monitor setup?
This is expected because of an Nvidia limitation.  Nvidia can only support 2 monitor OpenGL rendering at one time.  See the attached image. Users may choose Monitors 1 and 2 or monitors 3 and 4 for OpenGL rendering from the Nvidia Control panel. From Solution Id: S-068428.

SOLIDWORKS Electrical Icon In SOLIDWORKS® Electrical, how do I resolve the error message “Error 27502. Could not connect to Microsoft® SQL Server”?
The “27502” error code is a generic SQL connection error message. This error is the most common installation issue for SOLIDWORKS® Electrical. The error can be caused due to invalid permissions, connection problems, password issues or installation settings. To resolve the issue, test each of the possible causes in Solution Id: S-068529.

Icon - EPDM In the SOLIDWORKS® Enterprise PDM 2015 Add-In, why are the add-in toolbar buttons disabled and the selected file highlighted in gray color instead of blue when you select a file in the SOLIDWORKS® feature tree or graphics area?
The behavior for how selected objects are displayed in the SOLIDWORKS Enterprise PDM (EPDM) add-in pane has changed in version 2015 when compared to previous versions so as to not cause any noticeable overhead when modelling in SOLIDWORKS: SQL connection are only made when you explicitly select the operation in the add-in tree. More details in Solution Id: S-068537.

Icon - EPDM In SOLIDWORKS Enterprise PDM Web2, why am I unable to see the vault contents when logging in as any user other than the default Admin user?
This may be due to private state files being in the root of the vault.  These are files that have been added to the vault but not yet checked in for the first time. More details in Solution Id: S-068448.

icon - Simulation If I enable the ‘Self-Contact’ option for a ‘No Penetration’ contact set in SOLIDWORKS® Simulation for several faces, will the software consider No Penetration Self-Contact between different faces?
No, SOLIDWORKS® Simulation considers ‘Self-Contact’ only between different regions of each specific face. For example, if you select the following three faces in ‘Set 1′: Face<1>, Face<2> and Face<3>,and you enable the ‘Self-Contact’ option, the software considers the following source entity and target entity pairs:
Face<1> & Face<1>
Face<2> & Face<2>
Face<3> & Face<3>
Please note that the software does not consider contact between different faces. Therefore, if you expect contact between Face<1> & Face<2>, do not use the ‘Self-Contact’ option. From Solution Id: S-068497.

icon - Simulation When I perform a pin safety check or a bolt safety check, what does the 0.5 multiplier in the denominator of the ‘Shear load ratio, Rs’ equation represent?
SOLIDWORKS® uses the 0.5 multiplier to reduce the material strength value that you provided from a tensile strength to a shear strength for use in the ‘Shear load ratio’ calculation. From Solution Id: S-068550.
