Service Pack News

Service Pack 2.0 of version 2015 has been released. It fixes many issues and increases performance, but it also adds some usability improvements. They will improve your experience working with SOLIDWORKS. Here is a short list of such enhancements:

SOLIDWORKS Simulation

  • SPR 402245 – It is now possible to select edges using “Select Loop”.
  • SPR 529749 – In a nonlinear with shells, it is now possible to create a Pin connector (selection of edges is unblocked).

SOLIDWORKS Composer

  • SPR 523192 – It is now possible to output multiple views  in the Technical illustration workshop (just like in the high resolution image workshop).
  • SPR 557935 – It is now possible to edit the standard view name at view creation

SOLIDWORKS Routing

  • SPR 653286 – Harness drawings now automatically scale in a way so that all entities are displayed on the drawing, and tables do not overlap.
  • SPR 557935 – It is now possible to edit the standard view name at view creation

eDrawings

  • SPR 837245 – A version of eDrawings for Mac has been released that can open SOLIDWORKS or eDrawings 2015 format files.

Spotlight on Features: Sheet Metal and Gauge table rules (Part I)

In the November blog we looked at the sheet metal bend and gauge table parameters.
This month will be concentrating on some these sheet metal and gauge tables rules. When working with sheet metal tables it is important to understand their working rules.

Noteworthy Solutions from the SOLIDWORKS Knowledge Base

icon - SW Is there a version of eDrawings® 2015, compatible with the 32-bit version of Windows® 7 SP1, that can open SOLIDWORKS® part, assembly, or drawing files?
Yes. eDrawings 2015 Special Edition (SE) is available, as a one-time-only release. You can download this version of eDrawings from the ‘FREE CAD TOOLS’ tab of the SOLIDWORKS downloads page.
NOTE: There will not be any future SE releases.
From Solution Id: S-068140.

icon - SW Why might Hole Wizard Favorites data be lost after upgrading to SOLIDWORKS® 2015?
Starting from SOLIDWORKS® 2015, earlier data must be converted because the copy of the earlier file “HoleWizardFavorites.mdb” in the appropriate folder does not work anymore. The procedure to follow is given in Solution Id: S-068042.

icon - SW When using SOLIDWORKS 2014 or SOLIDWORKS 2015, is it possible to import a DWG or DXF file type created in AutoCAD 2014 or AutoCAD 2015?
Yes, it is possible.
Autodesk does not change the DWG or DXF file format with each new release of AutoCAD. Autodesk typically uses a three year cycle when changing file formats. As of February 2015, the last time they changed the file format was with the release of AutoCAD 2013. More information in Solution Id: S-068098.

Icon - EPDM What should be configured after changing the server name where MS SQL server is running and used for hosting SOLIDWORKS® Enterprise PDM vault database?
When the server, where MS SQL server is running and used for hosting SOLIDWORKS® Enterprise PDM vault database, is renamed; then follow the appropriate sections in the chapter “Moving Server Components to Another System” in the “Installation Guide”. More information in Solution Id: S-067970.

Icon - EPDM What could cause the error “Could not login to SolidWorks Workgroup PDM. User “<users>” not found.” when trying to login the SOLIDWORKS® Workgroup VaultAdmin tool?
This error may be caused by the Workgroup service not finding user information of the vault, which is stored in the file “users.pdmw” under the folder “…\VaultData\pdmrc\”.  To troubleshoot this issue, follow these steps in Solution Id: S-068052.

icon - Flow Simulation Why is the Fan curve option “Free blowing pressure increase” option recommended when fan manufacturer datasheets usually use “pfs” the static pressure drop?
The Flow Simulation developers recommend the “Free blowing pressure increase” option (Pfa = Pstatic outlet – Ptotal inlet). See the mathematical and physical justification in Solution Id: S-068212.
