Service Pack News

Service Pack 1.1 of version 2015 has been released. It fixes a SOLIDWORKS 2015 SP0 problem that can cause custom properties that are Date type values to have incorrect dates.  This problem occurs on computers with a time zone setting behind UTC (GMT).
It is strongly recommended that customers upgrade all 2015 products to SP1.1.
For more details about this problem, please see Knowledge Base Solution S-067708.

Spotlight on Feature – Contact Visualization Plot in SOLIDWORKS Simulation

A contact visualization plot allows you to detect easily the different types of contact in your model applied with global, component, or contact set definitions. The regions of the model where contact is defined are rendered in a color unique to each contact type. In the example below with only bonded contact, they are displayed in red.

Note: this feature is available for SOLIDWORKS Simulation Professional and Premium.

Noteworthy Solutions from the SOLIDWORKS Knowledge Base

icon - SW In SOLIDWORKS® 2015 SP0, why do the values of ‘Date’ type custom properties change each time I open and save a file?
This problem only occurs in SOLIDWORKS 2015 SP0 on computers with a time zone setting behind UTC (GMT): any file containing a custom property value containing a ‘Date’ type value can have an incorrect value.
SOLIDWORKS 2015 SP1.1 prevents new occurrences of the issue and is available for download as of December 16, 2014. If you use SOLIDWORKS 2015 SP0, we strongly recommend that you upgrade all 2015 products to 2015 SP1.1.

icon - SW Why do I see a diameter symbol variable <MOD-DIAM> instead of the actual diameter symbol when I create a dimension?
Check that the ‘Symbol Library File’ under ‘Tools’ > ‘Options’ > ‘System Options’ > ‘File Location’ is set to the appropriate place.
Usually the ‘Symbol Library File’ location points to the location of the gtol.sym file. This is located at c:\ProgramData\SolidWorks\SolidWorks 20XX\lang\english

icon - SW Why does SOLIDWORKS® CircuitWorks hang or not work when opening an ECAD file in SOLIDWORKS® 2015 SP1.1?
This is a known issue in SOLIDWORKS® 2015 SP 1.1 reported as SPR 845389.
It can be fixed with the hotfix attached to Solution Id: S-067771

Icon - EPDM What would cause the error “Failed to obtain a license for SOLIDWORKS Enterprise PDM. License server system does not support this version of this feature.” when trying to log in to a file vault view?
If you are running Enterprise PDM 2015 or higher and the SolidNetwork License (SNL) server does not have any licenses matching the same major EPDM version activated, this error will be show and cause login to fail: “Failed to obtain a license for SOLIDWORKS Enterprise PDM. License server system does not support this version of this feature.”
Please see the PDF attached to Solution Id: S-067447 for how to troubleshoot this error.

icon - Simulation If I have a SOLIDWORKS® Premium or SOLIDWORKS Simulation Standard license, can I define an Edge Weld connector?
Yes, you can define an Edge Weld connector from the Connections Advisor in the ‘Simulation’ CommandManager. Please note that you will not see Edge Weld connectors in the right-click menu of the ‘Connectors’ folder of the Simulation study tree. This is because you must have SOLIDWORKS® Simulation Professional or higher to access full Edge Weld connector functionality. Please see the SOLIDWORKS Simulation Help for details.
