SOLIDWORKS Tech Tip: Dissolving Sketch Text into Separate Sketch Entities

When adding text to a model to create a cut out, some of the text created, for example the middle of a “O” or a “D” may get lost. To prevent this from happening use the SOLIDWORKS command “Dissolve Sketch Text”.

Dissolving Sketch Text into Separate Sketch Entities

To dissolve sketch text into separate sketch entities:

  • In an open sketch, right-click the text (the pointer changes to pointer_Text.gif when it is over the sketch text) and select Dissolve sketch text.

The sketch text is converted into non-text sketch entities (for example, lines, arcs, splines, and so on).

The video below shows what happens if you don’t use this command and then shows how to use the command, to achieve the desired result.
