co-authored by members of the SOLIDWORKS Technical Support teams worldwide.<\/p>\n<h2>How to manage configurations in SOLIDWORKS Manage<\/h2>\n<p><em>By Kevin Crawford<\/em><\/p>\n<p>SOLIDWORKS Manage can provide different ways to handle your SOLIDWORKS part and assembly file configurations.\u00a0 Manage allows you to make a configuration active or inactive.\u00a0 When a configuration is active, a record for each active configuration of your SOLIDWORKS model will appear in the file list.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-24636 colorbox-24568\" alt=\"\" width=\"1027\" height=\"842\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once a file is added, you can manually make an inactive configuration active, thus the record appears, and also make an active configuration inactive.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-24637 colorbox-24568\" 1025w\" alt=\"\" width=\"652\" height=\"476\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can setup Manage to automatically create records for each configuration when you add the file to Manage or have it only create records based on certain criteria.\u00a0 When you create the PDM object inside of Manage, you have different options for how the configurations are handled in Manage.\u00a0 Select the appropriate option on the Configuration Options page of the PDM object wizard based on your requirements.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>No records created for the configurations<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Some companies may require a single part file for every configuration of a part.\u00a0 For example, every size of a hex head bolt has its own SOLIDWORKS part file.\u00a0 In this scenario, you would want no configurations active.\u00a0 This is the simplest option to setup and obviously less complex.\u00a0 When creating the PDM object simply select the option \u201cSave all configurations under one record\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><img created for every configuration<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In this scenario, you would want every configuration to be active when you add the file.\u00a0 When creating the PDM object simply select the option \u201cSave each configurations as individual record\u201d.\u00a0 <strong>Important:<\/strong> You must also select the option \u201cDo not create\u201d with no criteria entered to specify there are no 1247w\" alt=\"\" width=\"748\" height=\"531\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Figure 5<\/p>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>Certain records automatically created depending on the configuration name<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>In this scenario, you want some configurations to be active but others are not.\u00a0 You can add criteria to \u2018create\u2019 or \u2018do not create\u2019 certain configurations based on the configuration name.\u00a0 For example, if you want all configurations active except for configurations with the name \u201cDefault\u201d, you can set it up like the image.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" 1247w\" alt=\"\" width=\"749\" height=\"532\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you make changes to the Configuration Options after the PDM object was already created, newly added files will use the new settings but the configurations of existing files will not change to active or inactive.\u00a0 If you want to update all existing files, the PDM object will need to be deleted and re-created.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>SOLIDWORKS PDM Copy Link Ability<\/h2>\n<p><em>By Nicole Phillips<\/em><\/p>\n<p>One of our most popular enhancements has been the Copy Link ability.\u00a0 \u00a0With SOLIDWORKS PDM 2018 release, we added this ability to the software.\u00a0 You can use the Copy Link menu option to copy links of files and paste them into notification messages to your colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>To copy the link:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Right-click on a file and select <strong>Copy Link:<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone 951w\" alt=\"\" width=\"691\" height=\"493\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now when the message is received, the user can just click on the link.\u00a0 SOLIDWORKS PDM will then navigate the user to the appropriate file in the vault.\u00a0 <em>Note<\/em>, that the user must have appropriate permissions to the destination folder location in the vault and read content permissions to the file.<\/p>\n<p>Each link will have the details to the location in the vault (ProjectID), File (DocumentID), and type of document (ObjectType):<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-24740
