teams worldwide.<\/p>\n<h1>Troubleshooting preview problems in SOLIDWORKS PDM Web2<\/h1>\n<p><em>By Kevin Crawford<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Have you ever selected a file in SOLIDWORKS PDM Web2 and the preview doesn\u2019t appear and you get the spinning wheel?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-18632 aligncenter colorbox-18476\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.solidworks.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/Troubleshooting-SOLIDWORKS-PDM-Web2-image0.png\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 713px) 100vw, 713px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.solidworks.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/Troubleshooting-SOLIDWORKS-PDM-Web2-image0.png 713w, caused by incorrectly configuring Web2.\u00a0 One of the most common issues that occur when implementing Web2 is that the preview does not appear or the login page appears after selecting a file.\u00a0 This is likely due to the incorrect identity set in the \u2018SOLIDWORKS PDM Web2\u2019 Application Pool of Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS).\u00a0 If the permissions are incorrect, the Web2 application is not able to copy the file from the PDM vault to the web server, which means you will not be able to get the file.<\/p>\n<p>When Web2 is first installed, the Identity is set to NetworkService.\u00a0 You must change it to a user account.\u00a0 This user account must be part of the IIS_IUSRS group in the Windows Server and have logged into the server.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h1><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18478 colorbox-18476\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.solidworks.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/Troubleshooting-SOLIDWORKS-PDM-Web2-image2.png\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1300px) 100vw, 1300px\" the following:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Launch the Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager<\/li>\n<li>Select the folder Application Pools<\/li>\n<li>Select the SOLIDWORKS PDM Web2 application pool and select \u201cAdvanced Settings\u2026\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Find \u2018Identity\u2019 and modify<\/li>\n<li>Select Custom account and set the credentials of the user account that you are using for the web server.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-18479 colorbox-18476\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.solidworks.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/Troubleshooting-SOLIDWORKS-PDM-Web2-image3.png\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1152px) 100vw, 1152px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blogs.solidworks.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/Troubleshooting-SOLIDWORKS-PDM-Web2-image3.png 1152w, http:\/\/blogs.solidworks.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/Troubleshooting-SOLIDWORKS-PDM-Web2-image3-300x225.png 300w, the Identity of the Application Pool will automatically get reset to NetworkService.\u00a0 You will need to change it back to use the user account.<\/p>\n<p>Some other possible causes of Web2 being unable to preview files:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The password of the user account changed or expired. The application pool identity will need to be updated with the correct password.<\/li>\n<li>The login settings of the local vault view are using Automatic Login. As a possible solution, you can use .pvz format file, which is a viewable copy of the Pro\/ENGINEER model.
