When setting up custom properties in your SolidWorks<\/a> parts, assemblies and drawings you have no doubt noticed the list of Property Names that are available when adding a new custom property.\u00a0 Where does this list come from? And how can you use it to help manage your SolidWorks file information?<\/p>\n

The list of names that shows when you click the drop arrow in the Property Name cell actually comes from a file called\u00a0properties.txt.\u00a0 (The custom properties of any SolidWorks document can be accessed by going to\u00a0File\u00a0<\/strong>> Properties\u00a0<\/strong>and going to the\u00a0Custom\u00a0tab<\/strong>)<\/p>\n

The location of the .txt file that controls the property name list is shown in the\u00a0File Location\u00a0area of the Options\u00a0dialogue (Go to\u00a0Tools\u00a0<\/strong>>\u00a0Options\u00a0<\/strong>>\u00a0System Options<\/strong>\u00a0>\u00a0File Locations<\/strong>\u00a0>\u00a0Custom Property Files<\/strong>)<\/p>\n

The default location will be: C:ProgramDataSolidWorksSolidWorks\u00a0yearlangenglish<\/strong><\/p>\n

To edit this file, navigate to that location and double click the .txt to open it in Notepad, or any other .txt editing program.<\/p>\n

The Property Names will show as a continuous list.\u00a0 You can add any new properties you wish to the list by adding them on a new line.\u00a0 Also any names that you don\u2019t want to appear on the list you can remove.<\/p>\n
