The U.K.-based global power technology company is a pioneer in the commercial application of proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells and partners with leading manufacturers to commercialize the development of fuel-cell applications.<\/p>\n<p>According to Principal Engineer\u2013Mechanical Engineering Matthew Lennard, Intelligent Energy has maintained a strong mechanical systems development team\u2014to collaborate with partners on adapting fuel-cell stacks for use in mechanical designs\u2014since its founding in the late 1990s. \u201cWe\u2019ve relied on SOLIDWORKS mechanical design and FEA (finite element analysis) tools since the beginning,\u201d Lennard says. \u201cAs fuel-cell applications have grown, we\u2019ve sought to duplicate our mechanical engineering performance on the electrical systems side of our development effort.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_23957\" class=\"thumbnail wp-caption alignleft\"><a class=\"zoomLink cboxElement\" href=\"http:\/\/blogs.solidworks.com\/solidworksblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/12\/Electrical_Camera_3-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-23957 colorbox-23952\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.solidworks.com\/solidworksblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2014\/12\/Electrical_Camera_3-3-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"Electrical_Camera_3 (3)\" width=\"212\" height=\"120\" \/><\/a><figcaption class=\"caption wp-caption-text\">SOLIDWORKS Electrical<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Intelligent Energy chose <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.solidapps.co.uk\/products\/products-solidworks-electrical\" target=\"_blank\">SOLIDWORKS<sup><span style=\"color: #0066cc; font-size: small;\">\u00ae<\/span><\/sup> Electrical 3D<sup><span style=\"color: #0066cc; font-size: small;\">\u00ae<\/span><\/sup> electrical design software<\/a><\/strong> to streamline electrical systems development by moving from 2D schematics to a 3D integrated electrical design solution. By using SOLIDWORKS Electrical to integrate electrical and mechanical design, the company can standardize component placement and automate the routing of wiring within the 3D mechanical design. Instead of addressing electrical system requirements as the last step in the process, their electrical and mechanical engineers can collaborate more freely, integrate electrical systems more efficiently, and respond to emerging packaging challenges more readily.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.solidapps.co.uk\/products\/products-solidworks-electrical\" target=\"_blank\">SOLIDWORKS Electrical<\/a><\/strong> is helping us to improve our processes and automate key steps,\u201d Senior Electrical Design Engineer Paul Gesmantel stresses. \u201cIt\u2019s quite easy to place sensors, actuators, and transducers, and interface cables to the physical components. Then, we can hit the magic button that does all the wiring. SOLIDWORKS Electrical is truly a keen bit of software.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Intelligent Energy uses other integrated SOLIDWORKS solutions to realize productivity gains.
