It is really amusing to see how what we now take for granted once made the big headlines in the What\u2019s New pages of the documentation!<\/p>\n<p>Excerpts from version 2004:<\/p>\n<p><strong>SOLIDWORKS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Move and Rotate Components<\/strong> Move a component by dragging it in the graphics area <strong>without opening a PropertyManager or dialog box<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Weldment Design Tools <\/strong>are introduced including <strong>Trim and Extend Structural Members<\/strong> and <strong>Weldment Cut List<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>SolidWorks Task Scheduler<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>CommandManager<\/strong> was introduced in replacement of toolbars <em>(See those stylish icons!)<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2881 colorbox-2700\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.solidworks.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/Screen-capture20.png\" alt=\"CommandManager 2004\" width=\"645\" height=\"62\" \/><\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Lightweight Sub-assemblies and Drawings<\/strong> <em>(could you imagine working with large designs without it?)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Bill of Materials<\/strong>\u00a0 now generates a bill of materials that lists the quantities <strong>for each configuration<\/strong> of a part or assembly in a single tabulated BOM.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Hole Tables<\/strong> measure the positions of selected holes from a specified origin datum.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>COSMOSWorks (the original name of SOLIDWORKS Simulation)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0COSMOSWorks 2004 is <strong>released simultaneously<\/strong> with SolidWorks 2004. <em>(Previously, it used to be released a few weeks afterwards)<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The Material dialog box has been modified to <strong>allow using materials assigned to a part or assembly components in SolidWorks<\/strong><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2876 colorbox-2700\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.solidworks.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/Screen-capture19.png\" alt=\"Screen capture\" width=\"175\" height=\"260\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Connectors<\/strong> are added! 4 types available: Rigid, Spring, Pin, elastic support <em>(No Bolt connector just yet: you have to wait for version 2005!)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The solvers now supports <strong>multi-processors<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintaining Component Order. In earlier releases, assembly <strong>components appeared in a random order<\/strong> in the Solids folder of the simulation Manager tree. In this release, components appear in an alphabetical order.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>COSMOSFloWorks (the original name of SOLIDWORKS Flow Simulation)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0You can now <strong>export results<\/strong> from COSMOSFloWorks to COSMOSWorks studies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Global Rotating reference frame<\/strong> <em>(For rotating regions, you have to wait for a few more versions)<\/em><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Heat transfer in solids only<\/strong> option was added to specify a heat transfer analysis without any defined fluid.<\/li>\n<li>You can <strong>save cut plots, surface plots or isosurfaces in VRML<\/strong> format. <em>(You know how useful it is still today! <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-293 colorbox-2700\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.solidworks.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/Screen-capture.jpg\" alt=\"Smiling smiley\" width=\"16\" height=\"16\" \/>)<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Service Pack News<\/h2>\n<p>Service Pack 3.0 of version 2014 has been released. It adds some usability improvements on top of fixing issues and increasing performance. Install it to improve your experience working with SOLIDWORKS. Here is a short list of such enhancements:<\/p>\n<p><strong>SOLIDWORKS Simulation<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SPR 414704: In the Probe Results PropertyManager, it is now possible to copy the Summary table to paste it somewhere.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>SPR 418235: When listing elements, you can now get the list of nodes associated with each elemet<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2867 colorbox-2700\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.solidworks.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/Screen-capture18.png\" alt=\"Screen capture\" width=\"590\" height=\"391\" \/><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>SPR 523114: It is now possible to drag and drop a Remote Mass into linear dynamic studies.<\/li>\n<li>SPR 584819: It is now possible to apply Initial conditions (velocity for instance) to bodies in nonlinear dynamic studies with 2D Simplification<\/li>\n<li>SPR 594321: Number of plies and total thickness is now available in the Details dialog box of Composite shells.<\/li>\n<li>SPR 715416: The .OUT file now contains mass information of composites when gravity is defined.<\/li>\n<li>SPR 733523: It is now possible to enter a value larger than 1E8 for Moment in Remote Load<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>SPR 761912: Response graphs are now available in nonlinear studies for all element values, allowing response graphs for strains (among other result types)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>SOLIDWORKS<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SPR 614107: You can now use equal signs (=) in comment cells for the equations row.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>\u00a0Spotlight on features \u2013 Cut-Extrude Through All \u2013 Both directions in SOLIDWORKS\u00a0 2014<\/h2>\n<p>In previous versions users had to click <strong>through-all<\/strong> in Direction 1, check Direction 2 and finally select <strong>through all<\/strong> again. In version 2014, we have simplified the number of selections. We have added a <strong>Through All \u2013 Both<\/strong> directions option. This will automatically check <strong>Direction 2<\/strong> and sets its end condition to <strong>Through All<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2824 colorbox-2700\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.solidworks.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/PM.png\" alt=\"PM\" width=\"172\" height=\"395\" \/> <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2825 colorbox-2700\" src=\"http:\/\/blogs.solidworks.com\/tech\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/4\/part.png\" alt=\"part\" width=\"365\" height=\"236\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This option works in parts and with assembly features.<\/p>\n<h2>Spotlight on features \u2013 Editing plot properties directly from color legend in SOLIDWORKS Simulation 2014<\/h2>\n<p>In SOLIDWORKS Simulation 2014, it is possible to edit a plot directly from the color legends, either using left click or right click.<\/p>\n<p>For instance:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A left click on the legend\u2019s\u00a0minimum or maximum values\u00a0opens a toolbar which lets you directly enter a replacement value or reset to the global min or max respectively.
