SOLID Applications Ltd launch new web site
SOLID Applications have launched a
new, user friendly, easier to navigate, web site. Navigation
is driven by four drop down menus located on every page. From within
these menus
you are able to access all you need to know about the products and
services offered by SOLID Applications and UGS.
A quick links menu has been added for
customers who wish to access' Helpdesk Express' or the 'Helpdesk Web
Edition' as well as containing external links to UGS for Service
Packs and Graphic Card Certification. Brochures and White Papers
from UGS and SOLID Applications ltd are now also collected on a
single 'Collateral Library' page and within 'More Links' you will
find links to the NVIDIA and ATi Graphics card driver sites.
Training Course schedules can be
found under the Services Menu, with our Events Diary, Maps, News and
Case Studies all found under 'About Us'.
If you get lost a Site Search
function is available from the Menu Bar which also includes the Site
Map for text only navigation.

The site can be accessed via
www.solidapps.co.uk or

Tip
from the Helpdesk
Redefining Broken or Shifted Dimensions.

From time to time a model edit can cause
a dimension to shift or become detached. This is most often the case
when the dimension is placed to a keypoint (end of a line) which is
subsequently trimmed or consumed by another feature.
Did you know that the tools in Solid
Edge which allow you to fix (reconnect) a broken Draft dimension can
also be used in a Profile or Sketch to redefine the references of
any dimension (broken or not)?
This is particularly useful when the
dimension in question has references within Variable Table formulae,
so deleting it and adding anew would also mean a great deal of work
tidying up the Variable table.

Adding a radius in this profile shortens
the line the 'smart dimension' was placed on changing the vertical
dimension through the formula.
The workflow (which is also displayed as
a tip in the Status Bar when a dimension is selected) to redefine
the dimension's handles requires the
following steps.
-
Select the dimension you want to
redefine to display it's 'handles'
-
Hold down the
'Alt' key then 'click and hold' on the handle that needs
moving.
-
Holding the
button down drag the handle to the new 'keypoint'
-
Let go
Note: In the example below if I
had chosen the point at the base of the radius, the dimension would
of toggled to a 'by two points' orientation and would not of been
correct. To rectify this I relocated both handles to the bottom edge
in which the two points remain linear. The equation updates and the
profile behaves as
required.

V19 Node Locked Licensing Changes...A reminder...
Customers
are reminded that the method of licensing Node Locked licenses of
Solid Edge, currently via a Dongle, will be changing with the
arrival of Version 19.
With
Version 19 each workstation will have an individual license file
tied to the Disk ID of the primary hard disk.
Individual
licenses can be generated from the host PC, or from any PC connected
to the internet using your WebKey Account.
If your
company has not yet generated a Webkey Account (also used to
download Service Packs) you will need to do this.
A 45 day
license will be provided with the software delivery but you will
need to generate your license before this expires as UGS will no
longer be offering temporary license files.
For
information on how to generate a Webkey Account, from the
information provided in your license file follow this URL.
