V19 Preview Part 2
Last month as part of
our Version 19 preview we introduced you to three new technologies
that form a key part of this new release: Integrated Motion
Simulation (motors), Animated Exploded Views and 3D Annotation
(PMI).
This month we will
focus on a few of the key enhancements to the Sheetmetal
environment. For a complete look at these and other enhancements to
Solid Edge Version 19 we encourage you to attend our Customer Event
being held at the Holiday Inn, M6 J2 on the 13th July
(http://tinyurl.co.uk/ogwz)
Highlights include...
- Gusset Command
- Cross Break Command
- Hem Command
- Contour Flange along curved edge
- Flange, Match Face Command
- Stencil Font for punching now included
- Bend Tables in Part / Draft
- Bend Data (order) in DXF for NC
- Conical Bend Lines (Triangulation Lines)
- Flat Pattern Sheet-size

Gusset
Command
The Gusset command constructs a
stiffening gusset (sheetmetal rib) across a bend to provide
reinforcement in a sheet metal part.

Gusset's can be created
automatically from user input to a form, or interactively when a
user defined 'sketch' profile is required.
Like all other deformation features
in Solid Edge Sheetmetal the Gusset will not display in the flat
pattern for the sheetmetal part.
Hem
Command
Constructs a hem, (safe edge )where the material folds back from the
selected edge..
You can construct a hem along any edge on a sheet metal part. For
example, you can construct a hem along a liner edge or along a
curved edge of a circular cutout.
You can use the Hem Options dialog
box to specify the type of hem to be created.
The Hem Type list contains several types of hems from which to
choose. For example, you can define s-flange, loops, and open or
closed hems.
The dialog will adapt to the input
required for the selected type also offering options to miter and
add relief to the hem.
Flat
Pattern Sheet Size

You can use the 'Flat
Pattern Options' dialog box to set a maximum flat pattern size. If
the flat pattern violates the maximum size a warning icon is
displayed adjacent to the flat pattern entry in Feature PathFinder.
This can help you determine whether or not the part can be
manufactured due to sheet size limitations.
Tip
from the Helpdesk
Independent Detail Views
Ever wanted to add / remove lines or
shading from a detail view but found that it can't be done?. Detail
views are scaled up copies of a selected portion of an existing
draft view. The content of that view is driven by the parent so
cannot be in any way different.
Version 18 changed this with the
addition of a new option on the Detail View Ribbon Bar.

If you enable this option before
you create your detail view then it will behave as a standard view
with editable properties. You have complete control of all aspects
of the view including, individual part display, lines styles, hatch
patterns and the ability to enable / disable shading options. In the
example below I have turned off hidden lines and enabled shading in
the detail view.

P.S. In V19 you can convert existing
Detail views to Independent Details!!

V19 Node Locked Licensing Changes...
Customers
are advised that the method of licensing Node Locked licenses of
Solid Edge, currently via a Dongle, will be changing with the
arrival of Version 19.
With
Version 19 each workstation will have an individual license file
tied to the Disk ID of the primary hard disk.
Individual
licenses can be generated from the host PC, or from any PC connected
to the internet using your WebKey Account.
If your
company has not yet generated a Webkey Account (also used to
download Service Packs) you will need to do this.
A 45 day
license will be provided with the software delivery but you will
need to generate your license before this expires as UGS will no
longer be offering temporary license files.
For
information on how to generate a Webkey Account, from the
information provided in your license file follow this URL.

UGS to
Revolutionise Part Reuse Process for Global Manufacturing Industry
with acquisition of 3D “Shape-Search” Technology
Geolus® Search, is a “shape search” application which allows
manufacturers to quickly locate 3D models of digitally defined parts
from large heterogeneous data sources on the basis of geometric
similarity. The technology earned sd&m (it's previous
the “Innovator of the Year, 2004” award from CADCAM magazine
and its acquisition paves the way for UGS to build advanced
geometry-based search applications that promote innovation through
reuse and eliminate the time and expense associated with designing
or purchasing duplicate parts.

First Thursday Webinar 3rd August
Systems Design within
Solid Edge V18.
Systems design,
where a group of interacting components are modelled as a 'whole'
with sufficient information to describe how they relate to one
another and how they need to perform to meet design criteria, has
become an increasingly critical part of the product design process.
Following on from May's Webinar which tackled Families of Assemblies and
Dynamically Configurable Sub-Assemblies this months Webinar will
review and demonstrate a number of additional tools available within
Solid Edge which speed the process of designing Mechanical Systems.
Topics include...
-
Adjustable
Parts
-
Capture Fit
-
System
Libraries*
-
Fastener
Systems
*systems
library technology; A unique approach enabling users to define,
store and reuse cohesive sets of parts, features and constraints as
a single functional system.
